Ephesians 2:21-22 (NIV)
In Him the whole building is joined together and rises to become a holy temple in the Lord. And in Him you too are being built together to become a dwelling in which God lives by his Spirit.
First Southern Baptist Church of Anderson held their first Sunday School meeting on March 14, 1959 with approximately 25 people in attendance. Initially, the church rented the Masonic Lodge in Anderson on Sunday morning and evening as a place to hold its services.
Shortly thereafter, the group became part of the Shasta Baptist Association and the Southern Baptist General Convention of California.
In the Summer of 1961, with all the members working together and after receiving generous donations from the community, a residence was purchased. In December 1961, the church began to hold services each Sunday afternoon at 1775 Ferry Street in Anderson.
By 1966, it became evident that a larger building was needed to accommodate the increasing membership and a Building Fund began. The church that organized with sixteen members in 1959, rose to a membership roll of 278 in 1967.
In the spring of 1966, the church purchased a lot with an old building on it. Over the next several years through 1974, the church at the present location was being built. April 21, 1974 marked the Dedication of our new sanctuary at our present location.
